Columbarium Ministry:
Our Columbarium provides a final resting place within the shadow of the
church. It is a hallowed spot, made sacred by the memory of those
who have loved this church, have departed from our midst, and now abide
with Christ our Lord. The Columbarium is a constant reminder that in
Christ not even death can separate us from one another.
The surrounding walls contain recesses, called niches, for the ashes of
the dead. Each niche will be marked with a plaque bearing the name
of the deceas3ed person(s). Included as part of the Columbarium is a
memorial wall with space for plaques to honor loved ones who are buried
elsewhere.
For more information about the Columbarium, please call the church
office.
Endowment Fund:
St John Lutheran Church has established a Mission Endowment Fund as a
perpetual Fund from which only the earnings are distributed. The purpose
of this fund is to support mission work at home and around the world,
above and beyond the programs supported through regular offerings.
The Fund provides for the receipt of endowment gifts primarily through
gifts from an individual’s accumulated resources at death; however funds
can be donated from a person’s current assets. Resources given to
the endowment fund are managed by the ELCA Foundation with oversight at
the congregation level by an Endowment Committee. For more
information about gifts to the fund, contact Keith Brown, Committee
Chairperson at 540.774.9165 or e-mail
KBrown@vasynod.org.
