What is “confirmation?”
Confirmation is a year long learning process for high school students who are ready to take responsibility for growing in their faith and joining the life-changing movement of Jesus called the “Church.” The process includes 6 core learning courses, several mission activities, and concludes with a hike and celebration dinner with family and leaders.
What is the significance of confirmation?
Confirmation is a long standing tradition in the Lutheran Church that provides an opportunity for young people to become grounded in the Word of God, rooted in the apostolic tradition and Lutheran confessions, equipped to grow as disciples in the Church, and empowered to participate more fully in the mission of Jesus.
Following the year-long confirmation process, participants are confirmed by making a public affirmation of faith in our worship services. This gives youth a chance to publicly profess their faith and the promises made at baptism, and for the congregation to celebrate with youth.
For youth who were baptized as infants, confirmation underscores their baptismal vows by confirming God’s work in their life and expresses their desire to continue to live a life devoted to Jesus Christ and His Church. Confirmation is more of a springboard for an adventurous life of discipleship rather than a religious obligation.
Who is confirmation for?
Confirmation is open to any youth in high school who desires to take responsibility for their faith and live a life of discipleship with Jesus Christ. Most people do this in ninth grade, but we've had all age groups involved.
When does confirmation meet?
We meet from 9:30am to 10:45 am every Sunday during the school year. We conclude the process on Pentecost Sunday.
