Youth are empowered to develop a lifestyle of service and mission as disciples of Christ.
Annual Events
We provide intentional opportunities for youth to mobilize youth for mission.
Youthworks Summer Mission Trip: Every summer, high school youth take a week-long mission trip with YouthWorks (http://www.youthworks.com/), a Christian ministry devoted to providing short-term, Christ-centered mission experiences for youth at various locations across the United States.
- All rising 9th through graduating seniors are invited to go to Philadelphia, PA July 9 through the 15th, 2011.
The Famine: In the Spring, we mobilize youth (7th to 12th grade) to serve the poor and fight hunger. During the event, we fast for 30 hours while serving others in the Roanoke Valley. Youth raise money to give to people in extreme poverty during by getting sponsors to support their efforts.
Prayer at the School: The Sunday before school starts, youth, youth leaders, and parents drive to the local high schools and middle schools to pray for God’s work in the schools.
Local and Global Partnerships
We partner with local and global ministries to share in Christ’s mission near and far.
Hurt Park School: We participate in St. John’s partnership with Hurt Park to be a blessing to students from some of the poorest areas in the city by collecting supplies.
Rescue Mission: We serve homeless families at the Rescue Mission by running a week-long day camp for kids during the summer and serving their Children's Chapel the 4th Wednesday of the month.
Young Life: Youth partner with Young Life (www.younglife.org) to help their peers come into saving relationships with Jesus. Young Life meets at students’ houses around Roanoke to have fun sharing the message of Jesus, and have outreach camps for high school and middle school.
